Straight from Jim Elliot’s journal

Jim Elliot probably did not think that a statement from his journal entry on 28 October 1949 would become such an inspiration to thousands after his death. And it looked like what inspired him to write these famous words was the appreciation of what awaited him in heaven. He was sure of where he would enter after death. This reminds me of what he and his fellow missionaries did before they died. Though armed with guns, they resolved not to use them even if they are met with hostility from the natives. The reason?

The natives are not ready for heaven. We are.

– Quoted from John Piper’s post on Guns and Martyrdom
